Opinion: B.C’s energy debate needs less heat and more fact

You have probably seen a growing number of stories in the news and on social media questioning whether BC has enough power to make the switch from fossil fuels to clean electricity. These entities are suggesting government needs to ease off on policies and programs that encourage businesses and British Columbians to electrify.
This op-ed in Business in Vancouver talks about the misinformation being disseminated by organizations who are "fomenting fear that BC doesn’t have enough power, then leveraging that fear to argue the province should do less to tackle climate change does a disservice to British Columbians. It doesn’t enrich but diminishes the dialogue that we need to have in BC about how we produce and use energy."

Hurricane Helene 20 Times More Likely Due to Climate Change

Hurrican Helene.jpg

Attribution science tells us how climate change is impacting weather events and a recently released study indicates that the intense and devastating Hurricane Helene was 20 times more likely to occur as a result of warming global temperatures. The massive rainfall experienced inland, such as in parts of North Carolina was 50% greater as a result of climate change. This article in USA Today explains the links between Helene's destruction and the climate crisis, with continued warnings from scientists to wean ourselves off fossil fuels.
